red stripe is alright

so i had a meeting for work on tuesday night, and afterwards our photog dakota asked if anyone was going to the jamaican festival. when no one said anything, he added that there was free red stripe. he had me at the word 'free'. we headed over to 1515 14th street, right above p, to g fine art gallery. there was not a huge turnout, but there were lots of good things like free red stripe (took advantage of that to the fullest), good music, and lots of other free stuff like usb flash drives that were shaped like red stripe bottles. basically awesome. later, on the drive home @ a stop light, a cab driver told me i was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen, and then proceeded to give me his card. yes, his name was mohamed ali. president/ceo of ideas inc. i don't really know what that means. anyways, for a sample of what i was jamming out to, here's a track from hypem:
jamaican girls-terry lynn & johan hugo
it's worth it to check if this red stripe extravaganza is hitting up your city. i know they were headed to chicago tonight, and i know austin and nyc are in the works as well.

i'm alive i swear

i realize i haven't posted anything in a ridiculously long time, but i'm HOPING to be more consistent in the near future. this byt thing is quickly becoming my life! want to see what i've been up to? go to the website and check out some of my interviews and concert reviews. so far i've been to see jenny lewis/deer tick, and then i saw peaches on wednesday. amazing show. and then saturdays i spend @ the capitol skyline pool for our summer camp pool partiez. you should check them out if you haven't already. $10 for a day at the pool (a very nice pool at that). plus there's always day drinking if you're into that (everything's $5 and under, i highly recommend the sangria). and you can hang out with ME! anyways, in the spirit of my absence i'll leave you with a few jamz:
hot (treasure fingers rmx)-big gipp
triangle walks (allez allez rmx)-fever ray
gifted (treasure fingers rmx)-n.a.s.a
audacity of huge (naum gabo rmx)-simian mobile disco

sorrysorrysorry

i apologize for the lack of wednzilla jamz today...i had a post all ready to go, but i've been in a weird mood the past three days and didn't really feel like jamming out to electro beatz, even if you did. weekend jamz will most definitely be posted, though, and perhaps doubled.

semi-obsessed

i've had this song on repeat...i don't even know how to describe it. maybe a little kate havnevik-esque? a little bjork? perhaps you'd like a listen to figure it out (or not) for yourself:

cosmic love-florence and the machine

thoughts on willy wonka

pretty much i just realized that willy wonka's chocolate factory is kind of like rehab. everyone in there is an addict...agustus gloop is addicted to food, mike tv is addicted to tv (duh), violet is addicted to chewing gum (and talking obnoxiously, apparently), veruca is addicted to all things expensive and awesome (and being a bitch), and charlie...well, i guess he's addicted to being a goody two shoes (and poor). even the oompa-loompas are addicts...they're totally tanorexic. what does this teach us? i don't really know. but i feel like you can tell a lot about a person based on which willy wonka character best represents them. i would say i'm either a slugworth or an oompa-loompa, mostly because i'm a huge creep (i am always everywhere), and i like to break out into song and dance at inappropriate times. who represents you? i hope not agustus, because then you'd totes be a german fatty. death by chocolate fo' realz. anyways, if i run out of ideas for career ventures, i guess i'll just start up my own wonka rehab facility. winehouse gets dibs.

kidnap baby goats

so this band kidnap kids doesn't even need an introduction from me. here is their 'about us (slash me? i forget what they call it on myspace these days)' section:
Kidnap Kids is alie and celina! those two are basically just a coupla wise guys from the bronx. street smart and tough, they know their way around a guitar and xylophone, respectively. their lifelong dream is to play music to a crowd of people who are all ferociously making out. They also think it's cool to be smart.
the secret thing about kidnap kids is that they keep changing their name, but it's only because they have a secret crush on you. They have referred to themselves as the following: bears and chairs, beggars and chairs, de-luxembourg, mrs. vampire weekend, ratboy, and probably more. Do alie and celina like making up names as much as they like making up songs? is that boy in the corner wearing mascara or was he born with really long eyelashes? i can't remember if elephants have knees or not, do you remember? what do you want to be when you grow up?
all of these are viable questions, and i think you know what the answer is.

yes. yes i do know what the answer is to all of these questions. and the answer to any 'what should i listen to now' questions you may be struggling with currently is simple. kidnapkids! (and i don't mean that in like, the you-should-go-kidnap-some-children way. if that even occurred to you, you're probs a big weirdo and i think i don't want you reading my blog anymore. just kidding you can still read it.) okay and the cover of crank that (soulja boy DUH) is a.maz.ing, so listen to that shiz.

blair waldorf no way!

umm...i had no idea leighton meester could sing songz, did you?? i thought the only thing she excelled in was playing a super bitch who loves headbands, but i stand corrected. allegedly she's releasing some sort of electropop album in the fall. i don't really know what that means. regardless, here are some trax. i actually kind of like the bette davis eyes cover...does that make me a bad person? this actually started out as a post about the bette davis eyes remix by mylo, but i happened upon that little gem and figured i'd share it with anyone else who has apparently been living under a rock like i have. back the mylo remix...heard it last night @ the sweetgreen block party last nite and was a fan. thoughts? ps, i feel like death warmed up today if that gives you any indication of my weekend.

livin' in the land of the lost

scariest and most awesome show of all time. now that they're doing the new movie version, i figure maybe people will FINALLY believe me that it WAS a show. i've tried to describe it numerous times to people, and all i ever get is a blank stare or the suggestion that maybe i made it all up. false. how could i invent such a complex and amazing television program? plz enjoy the intro...ps, does anyone remember the episode where the purple moon makes all the dinos and prehistoric creatures go crazy? that was terrifying. the monkey is terrifying, too. not just in that episode, but always. if i saw him i would run away.

beatz and bleepz

woooooo it's the weekend again! if you're in town, stop by and say hello @ the byt capitol skyline pool party anytime between 12 and 8 on saturday. but even if you're not around, you can still make your own fantab party with the following jamz:

get down-jack beats
turn my swag on-telephoned ft. telli federline
metropolis (the twelves' b-live rio rmx)-cicada
hold the line (golden gloves wobble n shake rmx)-major lazer
exodus (malente rmx)-congorock

paparazzi (moto blanco edit)-lady gaga
laughing through my teeth (blatta inesha rmx)-boltan
slide-barletta
me & the washing machine (congorock rmx)-my awesome mixtape
skittish clubbers-pit from calcu**a ft. patrobot

and the awkward part of the night song when you're watching other drunk people do pull-ups on the metal bars inside the metro, and then you notice they are wearing legends of the hidden temple t-shirts so you decide now is an opportune time to strike up a conversation based on your extensive knowledge of the glory days of nickelodeon. and so you do, and you yell at their friend who isn't doing pull-ups for what seems like fifteen minutes to get his attention, but you don't care because this is important. and when you finally do get his attention you tell him you need to speak with his friend on urgent matters. so he turns to his bro and says, dude, that girl wants to talk to you. and he looks confused, and so you ask him flat out, would he have what it takes to put together the silver monkey? then you and they hate on the silver snakes for a few stops, and then when it's time for you to go, you bid them farewell by wishing them luck in all their future kirk fogg endeavors, and you tell them you hope that they DO win those remote control cars. hi-fives all around. not that that's ever happened to me or anything.

your song (team banzai rmx)-elton john

in honor of the heathers sequel...

in honor of the confirmation of a heathers sequel, i've decided to post the original for your viewing pleasure. if you don't like heathers, you are a pillowcase and i hate you. this is the first part, and here is the link to start watching the rest via youtube. ps i think it might skip ahead a few minutes to martha dumptruck's humiliation with the football team, but you should already know what happens...basically she gets fooled into believing one of them has a thing for her (c'mon, martha, let's be realistic here...) because the heathers utilize veronica's sick handwriting forgery skillz to trick her with a fake love note. i had to switch to a different user's videos because this clown above only posted half the movie, and the one with the entire thing disabled embedding. what a n00b. if it really bugs you, click on this link to go to the full version @ youtube.

wednzilla jamz

wednesdaywednesdaywednesday=jamzjamzjamz...i'm reposting the yelle track, too, because i'm sure some of you foolios were too lazy to go to the myspace page. here's another chance, i suggest you take it. the following five beatz are sure to keep you going for the rest of the day.

my adidas (pilotpriest rmx)-run dmc

totally enormous extinct dinosaurs

totally enormous extinct dinosaurs combines my obsession with dinosaurs and love of sick beatz, so it's an automatic double thumbs up from me. check out their myspace page here to listen to all their amazing jamz (take a gander at their photo albums for some gr8 dino art, too), and check out bournemouth @ hypem. oh, what's that? you're NOT going to go to their myspace page because you're too lazy? well here's a little sample of what you can expect to be missing out on, in their own wordz:
"RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH A time machine was sent back to just before all the dinosaurs went BOOOOOOOM!!! and died. horribly. and they said "RRAAAGH listen up future kids. we got the big tunes." and they sorted us out with a few dubplates. prehistoric dubplates made of granite. using the latest in free software the "big tunes" have begun to be uncovered and are ready for your listening. listen."
so do what they sez and LISTEN!

*sweet blinged out brontosaurus via totally enormous extinct dinosaurs

new yelle totes on repeat

new yelle!!! she just posted this new song, qui est cette fille (a robyn cover), on her myspace page (the song links you to it), and it's très fantastique. be among the first to ch-ch-check it out!

best.thing.ever.

do you like to laugh? do you also like total eclipse of the heart and/or bonnie tyler? if you answered yes to either of these questions, we should hang out more. this is going down in history as one of my favorite videos of all time. either watch it or get out of here...
